I caught up on my Week One training and started with Week Two today. All of last week, my training was done in the house or on a treadmill. The house training was interesting since I really just ran around my house, which was silly and probably not doing me any good, but I was just trying to keep going. I did Wii Fit Plus training on most days, which is a lot of fun. It brings out the competitor in all of us. When I was on the treadmill, I ran between 4.7 and 5.0 without an incline and walked at 3.0. I think the average distance was close to a mile and a half.
Today, I went to a link that Bethany had provided- Map My Run, and discovered that a local park right near my house has the perfect path set up for 5k training! So, while I was nervous to be running outside, I am so glad that I did it! The scenery is much prettier, and I found that I could eye a landmark for each segment of training. When I was on the treadmill, I found myself watching the clock tick by and it seemed to go by so sllooooow. The path I was on at the park circled this tiny little pond. There are a couple of little hills, but nothing major. I monitored my intervals with the stopwatch option on my phone and just hit "lap" for each segment that way I had a running tally of time for the total 20 minutes. I also used my phone for music, but don't have headphones, so I am really looking forward to having the iPod Shuffle! I think that I made it around the pond about seven times, and there were not any other people there really. That's good for me since I am sure that I look like a fool. Maybe I should just run like Phoebe...

I too started the Couch to 5K program in the Spring. It was great for a while but I had some timing conflicts so ended up stopping. You give me inspiration to get back to it! But I had the same experience: feeling like I look funny running (doesn't everybody??) and having time creep by on the treadmill!! Good luck with it! It really is an excellent program.
