Ok, so the election is over. YAY. I have become a Facebook addict over the past couple of months and someone sent me this "piece of flair". I have been having trouble thinking about what it really means. Yes, I know that Sarah Palin is pro-life and anti-abortion, but I see something very disturbing in this statement on, what should be, an innocent little button.
You see, when I read it, I see that people want to keep abortion legal for birth control use. This is not the rape/incest argument behind abortion, this is someone actually attempting to make a stand to say that they have the "right" to choose an abortion, aka: killing a baby, because they were irresponsible with their sexual activity. And yes, I know that people taking proper precautions still get pregnant, so I am not talking about that either. I am talking about the men and women who go about having sex with each other "in the moment" and then think it's ok because they have the right to choose abortion if they were to have a mistake pregnancy. I don't know, maybe I am rambling...I just found the dang button disturbing.

I'm having trouble with this

I find the button *very* disturbing. Anytime someone engages in sexual activity there is a chance they could become pregnant.
ReplyDeleteTo me, the button sends the message that they are upset that they cannot be as irresponsible as possible! Our "reproductive rights" are exausted the moment we make the *choice* to have sex.
I don't think the button has anything to do with abortion. Palin is a member of "Feminists For Life" which would criminalize the IUD and all hormonal birth control methods such as the pill. The group considers them "abortifacient birth control".
ReplyDeleteThanks Tom for the different perspective. My mother-in-law, who is very pro-life, also brought that suggestion up. I guess through all of the election mess, I only heard about how she was pro-life and wanted to overturn Roe v. Wade. And, I know of too many people that do use abortion as a form of b/c.
ReplyDeleteI guess I would have been in trouble with my IUD! LOL!
