GI appt. today

I have the best news!!! I am going to try and make this a "long story short" situation...

Our GI dr. moved, so we were referred to another. Lucky us, he has been doing a study on weak esophageal motility in children with Down syndrome. COUNT US IN!!! Too bad the study is already done and they are now putting all of the data together. Oh well. After talking with the extremely handsome doctor, he mentioned studying at John Hopkin's and knows peeps up at Kennedy Krieger. I would LOVE to get Ethan in up at KKI, but North Carolina medicaid will NOT pay out of state and the fees are a little steep to pay out of pocket, so we hope to pinch enough pennies to one day go to KKI.

Wellllll...Mr. Goodlooks doctor says that he has petitioned the state before for medicaid exceptions, and WON! Oh, and is also friends with the state senator. Nice.

So, I just had to give him some info and he is going to be writing up a letter to the state for an exception to be made on Ethan's behalf because he needs to be seen at KKI for intensive feeding/oral therapy. This is not anything that is available in North Carolina. The only thing we have is a feeding clinic that we attend every 3 months or so. What does that do for us? Pretty much NOTHING. And, this McDreamy doctor agrees.

YAY! I know that this is not a guarantee and that it is possible that even with these efforts, we can be denied, but to have someone right off the bat want to be the best advocate possible for Ethan's care- I am beyond ecstatic!!!
