Trip to the ER

Today was supposed to be filled with apples and corn dogs. We had planned on attending the Apple Festival this morning and then taking Ethan to the Central Carolina Fair in Greensboro. Instead, he woke up upset with a 99 temp. Now, 99 is Ethan's 101 so I gave him a dose of Tylenol. He calmed down, but would still have random bouts of crying.

When I could finally see him (it was 5:30am when he woke up and it was still dark), his left eye was still running and poofy. He kept rubbing his eye. Scott flushed it out with some warm salt water and he was still acting like something was really bothering him.

I called the MRI center since I had talked to them last night about the drippy eye. They felt that it was not related to the sedatives or contrast that he was given and that it was likely a coincidental case of conjunctivitis and that I should call the primary care physician. So I did. I left my call back number after the tone. Their message says that I would get a call back within 45 minutes. Um, right. An hour and a half later, I called back. The nurse tells me that they are closing in a half hour, so I need to take Ethan to the ER TODAY. Fine. There goes the Apple Festival...

Checked into ER. Was taken back to a room within 10 minutes. Dr. saw us within another 10 minutes, and we were out of there about an hour later. I was actually pretty impressed with how quickly we were in and out.

So, Ethan has a corneal abrasion. How he got it? I have no idea. But, it was a good thing that I took him in because he would have continued to rub his eye and make it worse, making him more prone for infection. We were given a prescription for some eye ointment and sent along our merry way.

Ethan is resting now. Maybe if he wakes up better, we can still take him to the fair for a little bit. :-)
