It seems that my precious little hometown of
Mariposa stands divided on an issue- whether Subway can bring its business to town. There are two Facebook pages that I know of. There is the
No Way! No Subway in Mariposa and the
STFU, Subway Will Not Hurt Mariposa. Yes, to Subway in 'Posa! My personal opinion is that Subway should NOT be in Mariposa. Part of Mariposa's charm is its historical roots and locally owned businesses. There are plenty of fabulous food establishments (minus Burger King) that are locally owned and operated with much higher quality food (IMO) than that of a major food chain. I don't know how Burger King was ever approved in the first place since major franchises are supposed to be "against the rules" of the town, and I am still very disturbed to this day about the demolition of the Frost Shop.
Anywho- I was telling Scott about this dilemma going on and he starts going on about how California is broke and can't afford it. Um...huh? What does that have to do with Subway? Then, the lightbulb went on. LOL. Yes, dear...Subway Sandwiches, NOT a SUBWAY.
Oh.My.Gosh. This would REALLY put Mariposan's panties in a bunch!
What people don't realize is that Mariposa lost all that was left of it's authenticity as a historical mining town a very long time ago. The town is dieing and w/0 jobs nobody else is going to be able to live here, go to school here, etc. The same mentality of people moving here because of its charm are also the same people responsible for demolishing the Frost Shop and turning the Hull House into a stupid victorian gift shop resembling those in SF. Mariposa wasn't a fufu town. It was rough and dangerous with authentic bars to frequent. The woman who bought the bar said..Mariposa doesn't need any bars! I just wanted to run her outta town! Anyhoo...we need jobs. Unless the town is prepared to bring back the authenticity of the town it doesn't matter what structures come to be here! Love you...xxoxo
